Early Years Curriculum

Our Early Years provision offers a warm, stimulating and child-centred environment where every child is encouraged to flourish. Indoors, carefully designed spaces and activities invite children to explore, make choices and develop independence through purposeful play, supporting collaboration, creativity and problem-solving skills. Learning is active, engaging and led by children’s interests, ensuring each child feels confident and valued.

Outdoors, our exceptional provision gives children daily access to a rich, natural environment that promotes physical development and resilience through safe but adventurous, risky play. With continuous access to the woods, children enjoy low-ropes challenges, a mud kitchen and an abundance of natural resources, inspiring curiosity, teamwork and a deep connection with the natural world.

Alongside this rich play-based curriculum, children also take part in purposeful whole-class and small-group sessions led by a skilled teacher. These focused times help develop early phonics, mathematical understanding, a love of stories and a growing awareness of the world around them. Teaching is carefully planned to build confidence, deepen understanding and extend learning at an appropriate pace for every child. Individual needs are identified and supported through tailored activities and sensitive guidance, ensuring all children feel supported, challenged and motivated to achieve their full potential.

We place great importance on ensuring a smooth and happy transition into school for every child. Strong relationships are at the heart of this process, and we work closely with families to build trust and confidence from the very beginning. Home visits and stay and play sessions provide valuable opportunities for children to become familiar with staff and their new environment, while allowing parents and carers to share important information about their child. Families are warmly welcomed into our school community and encouraged to communicate regularly with staff, fostering an open and supportive partnership. We also use Tapestry as a key tool to keep parents and carers fully involved in their child’s learning journey, sharing achievements, experiences and next steps to ensure continuity between home and school.
